I have just read a great blog post by one of my favourite authors/bloggers Jonathan Fields called “Warren Buffet Feels Like A Mosquito In a Nudist Colony?”
Buffet is telling his shareholders in Berkshire Hathaway about how he see the current economic climate around the world he says:
“Tony and I feel like two hungry mosquitoes in a nudist camp. Juicy targets are everywhere.”
Mr Buffet always has a great way with words!
With the huge amount of turmoil around the world, his words are especially relevant. The economy is like a countries Roads, most people/organisations stick the the main roads, because travel is easier and faster. The back roads can be really profitable in tough economic times (Traffic Jams!) and recessions are caused by runaway trucks that smash everything in their paths!
I see that the people/organizations who change, allowing themselves to move forward are able to avoid being run down by the economic equivalent of a Mack Truck.
Others are toiling away right in the path, doing what they have always done because they aren’t able to watch the road ahead and keep an eye in the rear vision mirror and when they look up they get stuck in the headlights of a behemoth and get destroyed by the crashing economy!
Get off the road, the asphalt is permanent, everyone can travel along it.
Are you the fastest or the biggest? The bigger or faster entities will always win, especially if the road you are travelling is a major highway! If you want to be successful, following along a major highway is not the way to do it, too many have gone before, too many have broken down along the way, the destination is a long way off.
Look for a path that is has less traffic on it, a narrower street with lots of bends in it will probably keep the bigger and faster people/organisations away from that area. You could even find a street or track that is overgrown, you might be able to regenerate the past success that this area has had.
Better yet do a bit of bush whacking and create you own path!
“Find the windows and opportunities that have been CREATED by this economy. Then…” Jump through it see whats on the other side!

I like this article. It is allegorical but it makes a point.
